Obesity poses a serious health risk - Obesity is now associated with higher rates of chronic medical problems and a poorer quality of life than is alcohol abuse, smoking and poverty.  Obesity has been shown to raise the risk of heart disease, osteoarthritis, diabetes, high blood pressure and certain types of cancer according to findings published in the June 2001 issue of Public Health. Part of that risk is due to the link between toxicity and obesity and the health dangers associated with toxicity.

About Toxic Obesity - Toxins are stored in fat cells as a means of removing them from circulation, thereby protecting the body from the damaging effect of circulating toxins, which if they come in contact with, or enter, a cell can cause damage to any part of the cell, including its genetic material. As an individual is exposed to more and more toxins, more and more storage space is needed. The end result is toxic weight gain. Most cases of obesity are cases of toxicity; a condition we call "toxic obesity".  Toxic obesity is not a bad thing. It is how the body protects itself from the serious damage toxins may cause.

Toxic Fluid Obesity - Another way that the body protects the cells from the damaging and irritating effects of toxins is by diluting the toxic body fluids - the result is fluid weight gain.

Toxic Obesity and Weight Loss - When individuals with toxic obesity begin to loose weight, the toxins that were stored in their fat cells are released into circulation. This is often accompanied by feelings of discomfort. As the discomfort increases, people often return to eating foods that promote the building of fat again, allowing for the storage again of  toxins, which then helps the body to feel better. Not understanding the process, people often  judge themselves as failures for not having lost weight, or for having lost weight and then regained it. But they are not failures; they are survivors who are listening to and following the wisdom of the body, which is telling them that weight loss is harmful for them. For a person with toxic obesity, weight loss can be very dangerous if the weight loss program is not also a detoxification program.

To be effective, any weight loss or weight maintenance program MUST support ongoing detoxification - If it does not, toxins will build up in the body, and fat cells will be produced to store these toxins. BDRM recommends a healthy diet, rich in nutrients that nourish and help detoxify the body. This diet can be used to enhance health, as part of a detoxification program and to encourage weight loss.
